Joseph Papin taught drawing to youth in East Harlem when he was working with the East Harlem Protestant Parish in East Harlem in the late 1950s/early 1960s. The following notice appeared in The Edge, East Harlem’s Monthly Newspaper, Vol. 1, No. 1, April 24, 1959. The drawings are ones that Joseph Papin did of some of the youth in the drawing class.
This is wonderful – your dad was not only a brilliant artist, but an outstanding citizen – always advocating and reporting for those most in need! Love it! Makes you wonder where those individuals are today – what they are up to…
Thank you Brenda, some of the youth were from a gang that changed their focus from being a gang to doing positive things in the community.
