Joseph Papin – “Spectating the Spectators” – Car and Driver

I found two of Joseph Papin’s original on-the-scene drawings that ran in the January 1962 Car and Driver magazine:

“Spectating the Spectators by Joseph Papin

“It’s true sports car races give a chance to see a variety of interesting machinery, but perhaps more fascinating are the thousands of fans crowding behind the snowfencing. You should try spectating the spectators. Not just an anonymous, amorphous mob, they’re individuals with their own tastes in cars, clothes and companions, something that’s easy to overlook when you see them dotting the hillside. You may recognize some of the type here at Bridgehampton – possibly you see yourself.”
